On January 19, 2019, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), along with Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), John Cornyn (R-TX), Rand Paul (R-KY), James Risch (R-ID), and Mike Crapo (R-ID) reintroduced the Silencers Helping Us Save Hearing Act.
In 2017, Senator Lee introduced the SHUSH Act and, also in 2017, the House delayed a vote after the Las Vegas Shooting at Mandalay Bay.
Senator Lee feels “Suppressors can make shooting safer for the millions of hunters and sportsmen that exercise their constitutional right to use firearms every year,” and has gained the support of some pretty heavy hitters from Texas and other states.
“Suppressors can make shooting safer for the millions of hunters and sportsmen that exercise their constitutional right to use firearms every year,” Sen. Lee said. “The current process for obtaining a suppressor is far too expensive and burdensome. Our bill would remove these unnecessary federal regulations and make it easier for firearms users to protect themselves.”
He understands the long and onerous process individuals have to go through to get something to protect their hearing and a silencer is not a murderously dangerous device. His goal is to eliminate the Form 4 process and allow individuals to purchase a silencer just as any other firearm accessory.
